Two Sleepy Hollow High School seniors have been chosen to perform in the 2020 New York All State Virtual Ensembles presented by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA).
Traditionally, the NYSSMA chooses the most qualified student musicians to perform with their peers at the annual conference in Rochester in December. This year, due to COVID-19, the students will submit a recording of a musical selection that will be mixed with recordings from students across the state into virtual ensembles. These virtual ensemble presentations will be released on www.NYSSMA.org at some point during the school year.
Sayako Aizeki-Nevins was selected for the Symphonic Band on mallet percussion and Phoebe Neilsen is an alternate on flute.
“This is an incredible accomplishment by both of students and a great acknowledgment of the many years of hard work they have put in on their instruments,” said Tarrytown Performing Arts Chair Micah Sprague. “Mallets and flute are two of the most difficult instrument groups from which students can be selected. The entire department congratulates both Saya and Phoebe for their accomplishments.”
