Virtual Back to School Night - Thursday 9/24/20

Dear Parents and Guardians:

It is a pleasure to invite you to join us for our virtual BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT, on Thursday,  September 24th. Due to Covid-19, we’ve had to make many adjustments to how we facilitate traditional school events. Please note that this year’s Back to School Night will be a virtual yet informative formal welcome to the 20-21 school year.

This evening is designed for you to virtually move through your child’s school day to become familiar with the courses he or she is taking and establish a working relationship with the teachers. The regular block schedule will be modified for this evening to accommodate the odd and even day schedule. For example, if your child has English periods 2/3 on even days and Global History and Geography periods 2/3 on odd days, on Back to School Night you will meet the English teacher period 2 and the Global History and Geography teacher period 3. Please work with your child prior to the event to familiarize yourself with google classroom as you will virtually attend each of your child’s classes by logging into each teacher’s google meetings. Links to the meetings will be posted in each of your child’s google classrooms. During our (virtual) general session, I will provide parents with a brief tutorial on how to log into google classroom, as well as share information about the remote and hybrid schedule.

Please see the schedule for the evening below and note that at the appointed time, you will log into your child’s teacher’s google classroom. Please note that study halls, labs, lunch, Freshmen Experience and student center will not meet. If your child has this period on his or her schedule, please skip this period and prepare for your next scheduled google meet.

Back to School Night is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn firsthand about the academic experiences your children will have this school year. Teachers will present and explain course requirements, student expectations and grading practices as they discuss ways in which we can work together to support your child’s efforts. We hope this will be the first of many ongoing communications we will have with you throughout the school year as partners in your children’s education. You may also use this time to meet with your child’s guidance counselor. Please schedule an appointment with your child’s counselor prior to Thursday’s meeting.

This evening is designed to familiarize you with your child’s program for the year; it is not designed for individual conferences. Classroom presentations are limited to 10 minutes, so there will be little time available for teachers to address individual questions. Parents requesting conferences with any or all of their child’s teachers are always welcome to contact teachers directly through the main office or contact the guidance department to schedule an appointment.

Thanks for your continued support and understanding as we navigate the school year in this new norm. Please feel free to reach out to me, our assistant principal Tony Baxter, your child’s teacher(s), guidance counselor, or any of our clinical staff if you have questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you virtually on Thursday evening. If you are unable to join us for any of the back to school night meets, they will all be recorded. You may view them at a later time through your child’s google classroom link.
