Sharon O’Grady Appointed as Washington Irving Assistant Principal
The Board of Education of the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns is pleased to announce the appointment of Sharon O’Grady as the Washington Irving Assistant Principal. She will begin this new role on September 1, 2019.
Ms. O’Grady has been in our District since August 2012. She began her career as a Staff Developer in Washington Irving School and still continues in the role. Ms. O’Grady has also served as the District Math Coordinator K-12 for the past two years. In both of these roles Ms. O’Grady has designed and facilitated professional development workshops at the building and district level. She has collaborated with administrators, department chairs and K-12 teachers to enhance articulation across grade levels. As the Washington Irving staff developer, she has coordinated the administration of New York State ELA, mathematics and science assessments, as well as oversaw class placement process and articulation meetings across grade levels and buildings.
Ms. O’Grady’s prior experience was with the New York City Board of Education where she was a classroom teacher, grades 4th and 5th for six years and a Literacy Coach, grades K-5 for one year.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to continue to work with the students and staff of Washington Irving as Assistant Principal,” said Ms. O’Grady. “My time in the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns has helped to reconfirm my love of learning and I look forward to inspiring others to love it as well.”
Ms. O’Grady earned her Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Childhood Education from State University of New York at Oswego and a Master of Science degree in Literacy Education from Mercy College. She also earned a Professional Certificate in Educational Leadership from Manhattanville College.

Ms. O’Grady will be replacing Ms. Romano who has been serving as the Interim Assistant Principal following the resignation of Mr. Graziano who relocated out of New York State.
